Our Galaxy Explorer Program offers high school age students hands-on, fun, and educational community service work for developing science exploration, job and life skills. To learn more about the Galaxy Explorer program and how you can impact science education in your community while gaining invaluable experience, attend one of our information sessions. Applicants only need to attend one session.

Key Requirements:

  • Participants should have an interest in science, math, or technology.
  • Applicants must have completed the 8th grade. Middle school students click here.
  • Ability to speak to and work with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
  • A minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 is required in order to participate in paid internship activities.
  • Minimum commitment of 66 hours per year.

 

The Application Process

Applications are accepted year round. Applications will be reviewed February 1st, October 1st, and June 1st for training later that month. If accepted, you will receive an invitation via email to attend the initial training.

Introductory, Customer Service & Safety Training

All new volunteers are required to attend the initial training prior to working in the Center (no exceptions). It's our way of getting your feet wet. You will be introduced to the history of Chabot, safety procedures, customer service skills, the ins-and-outs of the program, and meet program staff and experienced volunteers.

If accepted you will receive an electronic invitation to start the mandatory training program.
