Quantitative Solar Spectroscopy: The Fate of Our Sun
July 20 - 24: July 20, 21, 23, 24 | 1:30–5:00pm
July 22nd 8:30pm – 11:30pm This is an outdoor night observation meeting to collect data using Chabot’s large and mobile telescopes.
Come build a deeper understanding of the way the electromagnetic spectrum interacts with the matter of the universe and what it tells us about the future of our solar system. Explore concepts through guided planetarium workshops and discussions. In an evening session on the third day, learn to collect spectroscopic readings of different types of stars using Chabot’s large and mobile telescopes. Then perform data analysis to compare variations in stellar composition. Using the stars around us, unfold the past, present, and future of our Sun.
Open to incoming 8th graders to incoming 12th graders. Please bring a water bottle and snacks daily and dress in warm layers for the third evening meeting.
General Admission: $550
Member Rate: $500 (Login required)
