Introduction to Understanding and Observing the Night Sky
Introduction to Understanding and Observing the Night Sky
July 7-9 | July 7 & 8 1:30–5:00pm
July 9 | 8:30pm – 11:30pm This is an outdoor night observation meeting using Chabot’s telescopes.
This course introduces students to backyard astronomy. We will spend two days learning about the history of astronomy and its uses, how to spot celestial objects in the night sky, and about the processes at play that make the night sky so different throughout the year. The third day is an evening class that gives students a chance to apply the skills they have learned to navigate the cosmos. This intensive course is great for those who don’t have a lot of experience with astronomy but look up at the night sky with wonder.
Open to incoming 8th graders to incoming 12th graders. Please bring a water bottle and snacks daily and dress in warm layers for the third evening meeting.
